Forrester Wave Signals Power BI As Analytics Leader

Power BI Again Named Augmented BI Leader by The Forrester Wave

The Forrester Wave again Named Microsoft Power BI the leader among Augmented BI Platforms for 2021.

Earlier this year, the Gartner Magic Quadrant also selected Power BI as the leader in the category of Analytics & BI Platforms. Power BI was released by Microsoft in July of 2015, and has seen rapid adoption across the globe.

Perfect Score(s) for Power BI

Power BI continues to experience rapid adoption and support across the self-service analytics community. The Forrester Scorecard for Augmented BI Platforms issued a number of perfect scores for the data platform. Power BI scored a perfect score (5.0 out of 5.0) on: core enterprise BI, enterprise functionality, translytical low-code, no-code, globalization, execution, performance, planned enhancements, supporting products & services, and partner ecosystem.

Architecture & Deployment

Interestingly enough, according to the Forrester Wave Scorecard Microsoft’s lowest score was Architecture & Deployment with a score of 2.6 out of 5.0 grade. This is likely because building ad-hoc reports in Power BI requires a much different skill-set than building a holistic enterprise data analytics solution. Architecting and deploying a full end-to-end Power BI solution requires technical expertise across dimensional data modeling, data engineering, cloud development, data governance and continued data-driven support (click).

Rapidly Growing Adoption

Microsoft disrupted the business intelligence marketplace in 2015 by offering Power BI for $10/month per user. Today the rapid adoption of Power BI stems largely from the fact that the tool is part of the Microsoft Power Platform and seamlessly integrates with Microsoft 365 and the Azure Cloud.

Forrester Scorecard Summary

Forrester and Gartner have been two of the most trusted voices in the industry for years. The Forrester Wave Scorecard appears very thorough, even assessing a grade for Supporting Products and Partner Ecosystem. Power BI received a a 5.0 grade in each respective category.

As a Microsoft Certified Partner ourselves, Fulton Analytics agrees with the perfect grade given to Power BI. We also agree that a trusted partner ecosystem is critical to the architecture, deployment, and ongoing support of leading business intelligence platforms.
